The Story
From muni tees to major Sundays.
Spencer learned the game on a windswept nine-hole muni where the greens roll about as true as a parking lot. He carried his own bag through three Q-School stages, slept in his car at two of them, and still posted under par.
On Friday afternoon, with the cut line bouncing on every scoreboard refresh, he poured in a 22-footer on 18 to play the weekend at his first major. The roar was, by all accounts, disproportionate to the field position.
"I just wanted one more loop around this place."
